Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 288

Day 288 of the challenge! I could never bring myself to finish Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (Halloween 6) until now. It’s worse than I ever expected.

Where do I begin with this train wreck of a movie? It’s a Michael Myers Halloween sequel, but full of 90’s horror chic and metal guitar. Nothing in this movie makes a shred of sense (even for a part 6 of a slasher franchise. Do I count Season of the Witch? Ugh, who knows...), and it features Paul Rudd in his first role. Fair description maybe?

The production history of this film is pretty well documented (so no need to go into details here), but none of the online articles describing what a mess Halloween 6 can prepare you for just how bad a watch it actually is. It’s more of a series of slightly related events than a cohesive story, one that falls right past “so bad it’s good” and splats farther down in the hole where Freddy’s Dead (which is at least kind of sort of fun) and Jason Goes to Hell crashed landed a few years earlier.

Interestingly enough, it ended up being a pretty fun game of “Spot the Reshoot” and “Find the Cut Scenes”. I’m looking forward to watching and comparing to The Producer’s Cut of Halloween 6, which supposedly fixes “some” of the bigger issues this theatrical version has. Either way, I can’t see it being that much better.
