Day 214 of the challenge! Sometimes They Come Back is pretty great for a King TV movie. There's more to it than meets the eye.
Liked:
I had some legit mini anxiety attack while watching this one. It's very frustrating to watch unfold at times, but for the right reasons.
Pokes at several anxieties most people have (I imagine). For example, anxiety about your past coming back to haunt you (literally in this case), finishing something important you started, and that terrible fear of being powerless to protect those you love.
I didn't think it was all that scary while watching it, but I did have a pretty gnarly nightmare that night...so take that as you will.
Love some of the prop designs in this, especially the sick car!
The gore effects and make-up are on point (as they usually are, even in the worst King adaptations).
Didn't like:
The neoclassical score made it feel like a soap opera most of the time. Very melodramatic.
Acting wasn't the best.
Some of the messages were too on the nose. Like they didn't want you to miss the point, resulting in some VERY corny and sappy scenes (especially in the flashbacks).
Could have used some "less is more" for some of it's visual effects shots.
