Day 320 of the challenge! Shook things up today with a lil trip to Bollywood! Bombay Talkies is a pretty rad watch!

I’m pretty sure Bombay Talkies is the first full Indian film I’ve seen all the way through, and I can’t say it’s a bad start at all.

An anthology film made up of 4 stories, Bombay Talkies is a film that tackles quite a few social disparities in Indian culture without ever demonizing any of it. It feels more like a celebration of the culture in a way, highlighting how it’s best elements can overcome any of the negative. Cheesy? In some spots maybe, but who doesn’t like cheese?

Each segment is a beautifully crafted tale that puts emphasis on it’s roster of likable (and very human) characters over anything else, giving the film some serious heart and emotion. It’s hard not to get swept up in any of the struggles as we watch them unfold.

Bombay Talkies also acts as a celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema, wrapping things up in a pretty catchy musical number right in the middle of the credits. I’m not big on musicals (like AT ALL), but even I have to admit it’s a great way to wrap up such a human film, and it left a big ol’ smile on my face.
