Day 337 of the challenge! Was saving Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale for December! Super fun for you dark comedy fans!

So I wanna start off by saying how glad I am Rare Exports lived up to the online hype I’ve been seeing over the years. It’s a fantastic Christmas time satire that puts the Santa Claus mythology through the shredder, giving the usual Christmas movie “must haves” (ginger bread, reindeer, elves, etc) a sick and twisted makeover I couldn’t help but fall in love with.

Rare Exports also oozes style. It’s an excellently directed film that slowly absorbs you into it’s bleak world with slick camera work and cinematography, overcoming the few jarringly CG shots and lulls in the story. The final act of the film is also a bit melodramatic for my taste, but it’s in line with everything else we’re shown in this crazy world (and it’s sure to appeal to a certain subset of the watching audience that may be a bit too young to be actually watching it).

For what it is, Rare Exports nails it! I for sure have a new holiday favorite!
